Lead Data Engineer – Snowflake (Healthcare)
Job description
We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer – Snowflake to design, build, and optimize scalable data platforms supporting healthcare analytics and reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Snowflake, SQL, and ETL/ELT pipeline development, along with experience handling healthcare data in a regulated environment. This role requires close collaboration with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, while also providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
Key responsibilities
• Lead the design and implementation of data architectures and pipelines using Snowflake • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models for healthcare analytics • Build and maintain ELT/ETL pipelines to ingest, transform, and process healthcare data from multiple sources (EMR/EHR systems, claims, labs, pharmacy, etc.) • Implement data governance, security, and access controls in compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations • Design and manage Snowflake features including data sharing, streams, tasks, dynamic tables, and Snowpipe • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable and performant data solutions • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on best practices and architectural decisions • Optimize Snowflake performance, cost management, and resource utilization • Ensure data quality, lineage, and documentation standards are maintained • Partner with cross-functional teams to support reporting, analytics, and machine learning initiatives
Requirements
• Good experience in Data Engineering • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake (data modeling, performance tuning, cost optimization) • Advanced expertise in SQL and database design • Experience building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines • Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance • Experience working with healthcare data domains (EMR/EHR, claims, labs, pharmacy) preferred • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) is a plus • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
